Aims and objectives
The aims and objectives of the Institute are comprehensively set out in our Memorandum & Articles of Association and our Vision Statement

Summary:
Broadly speaking, the M&A and Vision Statement are motivated by a desire to establish and maintain professional and educational standards related to training in conflict management, more specifically, preventing and managing work related violence effectively.

Philosophical approach:

  • To “establish standards of professional conduct and practice adherence to which shall constitute a condition of continual membership.”

  • To educate training purchasers and commissioners to provide appropriate training to their staff based on training need and risk assessment.

  • To provide training/educative programmes to all organizations/companies who’s staff are at risk of violence.

  • To actively court likeminded professional bodies and sector specific organizations to help disseminate the Institute of Conflict Management message and to co-operate in relevant areas.

Practical approach:

  • To successfully promote the National Occupational Standards (NOS) as the benchmark document to be used in developing educative programmes to prevent and manage work related violence.

  • To use the NOS to develop the Quality Award in training in Managing Work Related Violence which ensures training is based upon training need and risk assessment and cover all legal obligations of responsible but effective training.

  • To develop a national training award based upon the NOS for managers and front line staff.

  • To develop an ICM trainer member grade to ensure individuals have the experience and ability to deliver training (ICM sets minimum standards), and to contribute to their continuous professional development.

  • To lobby government and other sector representative organizations on the importance of effective training in managing work related violence that is based upon risk assessment and training need.
